Meet Catherine!

Catherine Berriz, M.S., CCC-SLP

Founder, Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist

Catherine "Cat" Berriz received her Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics from the University of Florida and her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology with Highest Honors from NOVA Southeastern University.  She holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and is a Licensed Florida Speech-Language Pathologist.  She is a PROMPT Trained Clinician and is trained in the Beckman Oral Motor Protocol.

Catherine is a South Florida native who temporarily left the state after graduate school to complete her Clinical Fellowship in New York.  During this time, she trained as an Early Intervention therapist and worked with children ages birth-3 years.  During her time as an Early Intervention therapist, she learned the importance that play and family involvement have in a child's ability to learn and retain speech and language skills.  Those teachings helped her build her therapy principles, which include: the importance of family involvement for the growth of each child's speech and language, the importance of play in a child's development, and the importance of consistent, hands-on learning.

Following her training in New York, she moved back to South Florida to expand her work with the pediatric population by working with children ages birth-18 years.  This includes work in the areas of: feeding therapy,  language therapy, speech (sound production) therapy, oral motor therapy, and pragmatic language therapy with experience with: Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cleft lip and palate, Apraxia, and more.

Catherine has received specialized training and has completed courses in the areas of feeding, oral motor skills, and Childhood Apraxia of Speech.  Her emphasis is in the areas of communication (speech & language) and feeding/oral motor skills.

Catherine knows that each child is unique and may require different approaches.  She scales sessions to fit each individual child's needs while also taking the family's requests and concerns into consideration.

In addition to operating her private therapy practice, Catherine enjoys spending time with her husband, crafting, and traveling.
